Downing Street has claimed it will rule out any trade talks with the EU in 2021 - even if there’s a pathway to a deal. Boris Johnson ’s official spokesman today said there would be no negotiations over a trade deal once the Brexit deadline has passed on January 1.
Technically there is nothing stopping the UK continuing to try to get a trade deal with Brussels, even if talks don’t conclude by December 31.
If that happened, the UK would have to leave EU rules and then form a trade pact at a later date. But the PM’s spokesman told journalists today: “You asked me about negotiations continuing after this year.
I can rule that out.” Asked if that meant there would be no trade negotiations in 2021 he replied: “Correct.” It comes as Boris Johnson
