Brexit costs left Lanarkshire meat wholesaler with no option but to abandon EU trade

A North Lanarkshire wholesaler that specialises in high-quality meat claims it abandoned exports to the European Union following Brexit as it was left with no option.

MacDuff 1890, based in Wishaw, had been successfully selling high-quality meat on the continent for years but Brexit has meant an increase in red tape and checks that proved too costly for the business’s customers following the UK’s split from the EU.

The company supply top quality meat, sourced from herds in the Lowlands and Borders areas of Scotland, to butchers and gourmet and award winning restaurants across the country and were supplying to a number of customers in Europe, including Germany, Netherlands, Italy and Belgium.
