Lanarkshire town centre demolition receives £9m boost from levelling up fund

The planned demolition and transformation of a Lanarkshire town centre has been awarded £9.2m from the UK government’s Levelling Up fund.Cumbernauld is set for a long-term redevelopment which will see its controversial 1960s concrete town centre buildings knocked down to make way for a new civic hub including schools, offices, health and leisure facilities.North Lanarkshire council leader Jim Logue says the authority is “delighted” by the funding and that it will allow immediate progress on the vision for the town; but expressed disappointment that three further bids for projects in Airdrie, Coatbridge and Motherwell were turned down.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.
