Manchester United's new football structure and Erik ten Hag agreed that Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui would be strong additions from Bayern Munich.

United have officially signed De Ligt for €45m (£38.4m) with a potential further €5m (£4.2m) in add-ons. Mazraoui has been brought in for a €15m (£12.8m) fee with a possible €5m (£4.2m) in add-ons.

De Ligt built a reputation as one of Europe's most exciting young defenders during his time working with Erik ten Hag at Ajax but his career plateaued at Juventus and Bayern.

After the departure of Raphael Varane, United always targeted the signing of a central defender this summer and De Ligt could make his debut against Fulham on the opening day of the season.
