Everton are reportedly in the dark over rumours that Liverpool are planning a controversial transfer move for Manchester United-linked Jarrad Branthwaite.

Despite bookmakers slashing odds on Branthwaite joining Liverpool, insiders from both clubs and those close to the England international have expressed confusion over these developments, claiming they have no idea where such speculation originated.

The Liverpool Echo report that there has been no contact between Liverpool and Everton regarding this matter. Earlier this summer, Everton turned down two offers for Branthwaite from United, the first being £35million plus add-ons in June, followed by £45m plus add ons in July.

Following these rejections, the Red Devils went on to secure other centre-back targets, signing Leny Yoro from Lille in a deal worth up to £58.9m and Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich for £38.5m with potential add-ons of £4.3m.
