Barbara Shelley has died at the age of 88.The star has been hailed as the "technicolour queen of Hammer" following her death which has been confirmed her her agent.During the 1950s and 1960s, Barbara rose to fame during the Hammer Horror films including The Gorgon, Dracula, Prince Of Darkness and Rasputin.She also starred in The Mad Monk, Quatermass And The Pit, as well as Blood Of The Vampire, and Village Of The Damned.Barbara also appeared in the Doctor Who episode Planet Of Fire, starring Peter Davison as the fifth Doctor.Her agent, Thomas Bowington, confirmed that she had died to PA news agency.Thomas said: "She really was Hammer's number one leading lady and the technicolour queen of Hammer."On screen she could be quietly evil.
