Boris Johnson slapped down Education Secretary Gavin Williamson today after he said girls should be allowed to attend the Prime Minister's old school, Eton College.
The Berkshire institution has taught only boys since it was founded in 1440. But Mr Williamson said he would be “very much in favour” of the £42,501-a-year establishment being opened to females.
He was slapped down by Downing Street just four hour laters, with the Prime Minister spokesman saying: “This is a matter for Eton as an independent school who are responsible for their own admissions policy. “What's important is that we have now have more good schools for children across the whole country, regardless of gender, background or where they live.” He added: “Single sex
