Boris Johnson cannot be trusted on the international stage to do Brexit trade deals, Ireland’s deputy Prime Minister has warned.Leo Varadkar, the former Taoiseach of Ireland, fired off a diplomatic salvo accusing the UK of being a nation that “doesn’t necessarily keep its word” as the UK row with the EU over Northern Ireland deepened.
Varadkar made the comment after Dominic Cummings, Johnson’s former adviser, suggested the UK had always intended to tear up the Brexit deal it signed with the EU in 2019 which left Northern Ireland inside the EU Single Market.
But Johnson’s ex-adviser said the plan had been to “ditch the bits we didn’t like” after winning power because of the customs checks the deal required for goods entering from the UK
