Body found following major Elton Reservoir search as MP issues statement on tragedy

A body has been found following a search at Elton Reservoir over the weekend, the area's MP has announced. Emergency services were called out to the reservoir, in Bury, at around 11.30am on Sunday (December 8).

The entire reservoir was cordoned off by police while an underwater search team worked at the scene. Greater Manchester Police confirmed it was responding to concerns for a person's welfare.

It has since confirmed a woman's body was found. Christian Wakeford, Labour MP for Bury South, announced the discovery of a body on X this morning (Monday).

He said: "Yesterday I was made aware by the relevant authorities of the discovery of a body at Elton reservoir in the constituency. Mr Wakeford stated that the circumstances surrounding the death 'still have not been confirmed' while the body is yet to be identified.
