Billy Gilmour got a close up view of Ansu Fati’s goalscoring quality when the Barcelona wonderkid netted a double in a UEFA Youth Champions League semi-final against Chelsea.
Now the Scotland midfielder sees it every day at Brighton where the 20-year-old forward who inherited Lionel Messi’s No.10 at Barca, is on a season-long loan.
But as Gilmour prepares to lock horns with the Spanish sensation in Seville tomorrow night he’s been quick to remind his club-mate that when it comes to the crunch he still holds the upper hand.
Fati, until the emergence of Lamine Yamal this year the youngest player to score for Barca and Spain, might have netted twice in that 2019 semi but it was Gilmour and his Blues side that progressed on a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw.
