Stunned Max Johnston admitted he burst out laughing when he was told about his shock Scotland call-up.The Sturm Graz star has had an incredible rise over the past 12 months and it went to another level when Steve Clarke called him into his squad for Tuesday’s friendly in France.
The teenager was with Scot Gemmill’s Scotland under-21 squad and was still getting over the disappointment of his own late red card in Friday’s win over Hungary.A rather surprised Johnston then got the call to go downstairs in the team hotel and it was there team administrator Kirsty Mullen told him that he was being handed his dream ticket to join Scotland’s Euro 2024-qualifying heroes for the trip to Lille.
Johnston admitted: “I was about to go for a nap when Kirsty messaged me and asked me to come down the stairs. It was there she told me that I was going up to the full team.“I burst out laughing when she told me because I just couldn’t believe it.
I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. I went back up and the first thing I did was text my mum, Nicola, my dad, Allan, and my sister, Amy, first of all.
