Bert Newton was an Australian TV legend known for hosting shows including “Good Morning Australia” and the Logie Awards.Newton got his start on radio after dreaming of being a radio host since childhood.
He moved to TV in the medium’s early days, rising to fame as the co-host of “In Melbourne Tonight” alongside Graham Kennedy, beginning in 1959.
Newton joined “The Don Lane Show” in 1975 as host Lane’s sidekick. In 1992, he began hosting the daytime show “Good Morning Australia,” remaining with the show until its cancellation in 2005.
Newton hosted the Logie Awards, Australia’s honors for excellence on television, a record 19 times, becoming closely associated with the program.
