Zendaya is taking on an iconic role. The 28-year-old Euphoria star will play iconic Ronettes co-founder Ronnie Spector in an A24 biopic for director Barry Jenkins, called Be My Baby.

Before her passing in early 2022, Ronnie was an executive producer on the film and hand-selected Zendaya to play her, per the report. Ronnie co-founded The Ronettes in the late 1950s, and they delivered timeless hits like “Be My Baby” and “(The Best Part of) Breakin’ Up.” She married music producer Phil Spector in 1968 before their 1974 divorce, and described “psychological torment” throughout the relationship in her 1990 memoir.
The director previously won the Best Picture Oscar with A24 for his film Moonlight. Zendaya worked with A24 on Euphoria, and the upcoming The Drama.
