Strictly Come Dancing fans have been speaking out in defence of Pete Wicks as his show fate was confirmed. The hit BBC One dance contest returned over the weekend as the competition reached its quarter-final stage.

Week 11 of Strictly's 20th-anniversary series also marked the popular programme's Musicals Week, the last special of the 2024 series ahead of the grand final in just a couple of weeks time.

It saw the six remaining couples performing to a song from a well-known stage show with the choices this year including Wicked, Mary Poppins and West Side Story. The pair performed a Viennese waltz to Let’s Go Fly A Kite from Mary Poppins, with the duo hugging at its conclusion. Then, finishing bottom of the rankings were reality TV star Pete and his professional partner Jowita Przystal, who scored 26 out of a possible 40 for their waltz to Somewhere from West Side Story, with Pete saying "I’m so sorry" to Jowita after finishing the routine, in which they portrayed Tony and Maria.
