The BBC has come under fire for quietly dropping the National Lottery results pages from its text services. The broadcaster has published the winning numbers of both the Lotto and and Euromillions draws on the "555" page of its 'Red Button' text service for decades.
However the service has now been axed, leaving tens of thousands of elderly and disabled people who do not use the internet or smartphones in the dark.
The move is a further setback to senior citizens who make use of the service in the wake of the scrapping of free TV licences for the over-75s this year.
The text service, which has announced the National Lottery Results twice a week on Wednesday and Saturday nights for the past 20 years, quietly ended on Wednesday November 4.
