The BBC has decided to call time on a huge quiz show with a celebrity host after just two series. The Beeb has decided to axe The Tournament, which is hosted by football pundit Alex Scott. The 38-year-old had presented the two series of the programme which aired in an afternoon slot on BBC One.The programme saw eight players take on the Tournament Run as they took were challenged to tug-of-war quiz matches.“The Tournament had two great series but we need to make room for new opportunities," the BBC has confirmed. "We'd like to thank Alex and the team for all their hard work.”When the show first launched, it was pitched to the public as "the ultimate knockout competition, where eight players battle each other on the Tournament Run in a series of exciting tug-of-war quiz matches they attempt to knock their opponents out of the game and steal their cash".Only one player made it to the end, when they then had the chance to double their money on the Golden Run.At the time of landing the role of presenter, Alex Scott said: “I'm thrilled to be hosting a second series of the 'The Tournament' for BBC Daytime.

I can't wait to welcome players from all over the UK to join me on the Tournament Run, and to see who has what it takes to become champion in TV's ultimate knockout quiz."I’m hoping viewers will love the high energy it brings, and watching all the fantastic contestants battle their way through the competition.

It's a show full of strategy and risk, where favourites can be overthrown and underdogs can end up top dog!"Although it’s super cheesy to say, I really do think what we’ve done with The Tournament makes me feel like I want to be contestant!
