BBC Breakfast fans will definitely recognise temporary presenter Katherine Downes, who has recently stepped up to the plate to replace more permanent cast members like Sally Nugent and Naga Munchetty.But during the presenters’ absences around the festive period, some viewers were left confused as Katherine appeared on the red sofa despite having handed in her notice to BBC bosses.In November 2021, Katherine announced she would be leaving the BBC after an epic 14 years.In her statement, she explained: “So proud to have broadcast from this sofa (and other BBC sofas...) for the last decade.

But after 14 years at the BBC, it's time to move on.“I’m leaving the Sports News studio later this month to concentrate on commentary and presentation...“From radio to TV, news to sport, the BBC has taken me on the biggest adventure and I can't believe how lucky I've been.”The star added: “It's given me the best of times and the best of friends.“I hope they'll have me back every now and then, but if you're looking for a commentator/presenter/reporter, I'll be free from the end of November…“Not an easy tweet to write or an easy choice to make, but it feels like the time is right to try something new and I'm excited to see what else is out there.”But Katherine was soon firmly back on the BBC set as she filled in for her absent co-stars.To celebrate her iconic stint on the programme, Daily Star has delved deeper into Katherine’s life off-screen - from letting the public choose her wedding dress to her co-star feuds.Katherine bade an emotional farewell to her co-stars after her Twitter announcement, with pals including Naga Munchetty and Dan Walker chiming in to say goodbye.Naga sweetly reminded her that she’s welcome back on the show any.
