Perthshire golfer Rory Franssen will fulfil a boyhood dream when he makes his DP World Tour debut as a professional this week. The Auchterarder Golf Club member is in the field for the high-profile Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, played over Kingsbarns, Carnoustie and the Old Course.Franssen (24), who enjoyed a successful amateur career before turning pro, will share the fairways with global stars of the game and many who last week played in the Ryder Cup.“That is going to be pretty crazy,” he smiled. “It is my first time playing in a DP World Tour event as a pro.“I’ll be standing around guys I’ve watched on TV growing up.“The Ryder Cup was pretty inspirational to watch so it’s pretty surreal to now be here playing.“This is what I’ve dreamed of doing since I was young.
It will be a cool and proud moment to just be able to finally play in something like this.“For me, with the stage I’m at, getting opportunities like this are pretty rare.
I need to make the most of it if I can.“I know if I play my best golf I can do okay and, for me, that comes when I’m relaxed and just having fun.
That is what I’m going to try and do.“One of my good friends who lives in St Andrews is on the bag and that will help a lot.”Franssen actually played in the unique event - which pairs professionals and amateurs (often celebrities) together - back in 2021.
