As we head into winter, Greater Manchester's hospitals are already nearly full

Greater Manchester hospitals are more than 90 per cent full, the Manchester Evening News can reveal. Hospital bed occupancy across Greater Manchester is now around 92 per cent, according to the latest update from the region's NHS system.

Children's beds has also been more than 90 per cent full in the last week, as 'paediatric services have also seen an increase in attendances'.

The M.E.N. has previously reported how health leaders have said anything beyond 85 per cent of beds occupied is 'very uncomfortable for hospitals'.

The proportion of beds occupied as of this update is similar to the same time last year, which saw the start of an extremely difficult winter for the NHS, with scenes of patients waiting in ambulances for hours outside A&E as there were too few beds and medics to cope with demand.
