'Armed police' lock down Dundee flat as man barricades himself inside

'Armed police' descended on a block of flats in Dundee after a man 'barricaded himself' inside. Police and fire crews scrambled t o HIlltown Terrace on after the alarm was raised at 12.40am on Sunday March 13.

As of 3pm, officers were still on the scene.Video footage shared with the Daily Record shows one fire engine, two ambulance motors and several police vehicles lining the road that meets Hilltown Terrace.The entrance to the terrace is blocked off by a riot van.One police officer is stood close to the van guarding a large cordon that's been placed down.One other officer can be seen in the background.Residents on social media claimed there had been 'shouting and banging all night' while another claimed they had to be 'escorted' into their home in the same block. 'Armed police' were also drafted, according to The Courier.A spokeswoman from Police Scotland confirmed the incident to the Record and assured that there is no risk to the wider public.She said: “Officers are currently in attendance at a block of flats on Hilltown Terrace after a man barricaded himself within."Officers were called to the area around 12.40am."There is no risk to the wider public.”Fire chiefs confirmed their attendance and remain at the scene to assist police.A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) spokeswoman told the Record: "We were alerted at around 2am on Sunday to an incident in Hilltown Terrace Dundee."We were called to assist police."Operators sent one appliance to the scene."Fire fighters remain at the scene ready to assist police."The Scottish Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment..
