Matt Hancock has admitted the Government will stop negotiating with local leaders over Covid-19 restrictions after its bust up with Greater Manchester.
The Health Secretary told MPs the dispute with Mayor Andy Burnham about moving the region in to Tier 3 means local restrictions will now be imposed.
Mr Hancock told the Joint Committee on Coronavirus local areas will get “a set of measures within the tiers which are fixed, also financial support which is agreed by formula rather than negotiation”.
Mr Burnham had insisted northern regions put in to local lockdown be given a furlough scheme worth 80% of income, the same as the first national lockdown.
