Andy Webster is set to complete a return to Hearts. The former Tynecastle defender is set to be appointed as the club’s new academy manager on Monday after leaving St Mirren, where worked as Under 20s coach under head of youth and another former Jambos defender, Allan McManus.
Webster has been in talks with the capital club for a number of weeks over taking on the role vacated by Frankie McAvoy, who stepped up to become head coach alongside technical director Steven Naismith after Robbie Neilson's sacking.
Now Webster will assume his new role at Riccarton early next week. He will be the second new addition at Hearts in a matter of days.
They completed their first signing of the summer on Friday with the addition of experienced goalkeeper Michael McGovern. The Northern Irish international penned a one-year deal, linking up with McAvoy once more after playing under him at Hamilton and Norwich, where he was also a teammate of Naismith. He’ll provide cover with No 1 Craig Gordon still working his way back to fitness from a horror leg break.
