A Greater Manchester MP has apologised after he was sacked as a minister for 'badly misjudged' comments he allegedly made on a WhatsApp group.

Andrew Gwynne, the Labour MP for Gorton and Denton, has been removed from his post as a health minister. The MP allegedly posted offensive remarks which included racist and sexist comments in a WhatsApp group, the Mail on Sunday has claimed.

This evening Mr Gwynne confirmed he had been removed from his ministerial role and said he regretted the comments. In a statement on X, Mr Gwynne said: "I deeply regret my badly misjudged comments and apologise for any offense I’ve caused.

I’ve served the Labour Party all my life and it was a huge honour to be appointed a minister by Keir Starmer. "I entirely understand the decisions the PM and the party have taken and, while very sad to have been suspended, will support them in any way I can." It's understood that Mr Gwynne was stripped of his post after the comments were reported to the Prime Minister.
