TikTok to try and get some answers - but has been brutally mocked by Brits. In the video that has now racked up 3.8 million, the expat posed the question: “Can someone please tell me what these are?

They are everywhere in the UK.”Now most of us know the yellow boxes are full of grit, so residents can lay the rock salt onto pavements and roads in snowfall or frosty weather, which prevents them from becoming dangerous. In the UK, only widely used roads and pavements are gritted by the council so the yellow boxes full of free grit is for the public to help keep safe in quieter areas. But, Brits took this as a perfect opportunity to tease the clueless American about their lack of knowledge about British culture and grit boxes.

And, so took to the comments to share a barrage of hilariously wrong answers. One person chuckled: “They are war bunkers they can only open when the air raid sirens go off but be careful around them some have bombs that [have] not exploded yet.”Another user added: “It’s where we keep the spare rain to water the plants.”While a third person mocked: “It’s sugar for our tea!”Someone else voiced: “Communal open plan toilets.”As a fifth person remarked: “Tunnels to everyone’s houses.”However, a few did come to the rescue of the American and informed them that the yellow boxes were in fact to store grit. One helpful user shared: “It’s the salt that you put on the roads when it’s frosty.”At least someone had a sensible answer! This is not the first time the American has been left puzzled by British culture though.Previously, they questioned why some supermarkets in the UK have clock towers. And, they were also left wondering why British roundabouts have trees in the middle of them.
