Thrill seekers will be spaced apart from each other on roller coasters when Alton Towers reopens. While the Staffordshire theme park has yet to announce a date for when it will fling open its doors, plans have already been drawn up to ensure its safe to operate when it does.

Perhaps the biggest change will take place on the rides. Only members of the same group will be allowed to sit next to each other, with seats left empty to ensure social distancing.

A spokesperson for the company said: "On the rides themselves, we are planning that guests will be batched in family groups with empty seats or rows between different groups to ensure a safe distance.  Do you have a coronavirus story to share?
