When Alison Hammond received word she was to be made Friday host of This Morning, naturally she was over the moon. But the happy news was also “bittersweet”, she has admitted, because her No.1 fan, her mum, was no longer around to share in her joy.
Alison, 46, who has been co-hosting the ITV show on Fridays with Dermot O’Leary since January, lost her beloved mum Maria last year following liver and lung cancer.
She said: “This Morning was always a staple in our family home growing up. “It’s so bittersweet to know that this has happened and she’s not here to see. “Having said that, I do still feel her presence.
