Ali Dia’s infamous sole appearance for Southampton hit headlines for the wrong reasons – but his story has been explained by former boss Graeme Souness.
The Senegalese forward joined the Saints in 1996, wearing the No.33 against Leeds United. He replaced Matt Le Tissier after 32 minutes but did not make it to the final whistle, with his month-long contract ending after two weeks.
