Boris Johnson was elected 13 months ago on a promise to ‘get Brexit done’. And now we have a 1,246-page trade deal signed, sealed and put into action, the Prime Minister can claim he’s succeeded.
We’ve left the EU, its single market and customs union, with a deal to ensure no tariffs on £668bn a year of trade. But the EU-UK trade pact leaves many loose ends trailing - which now have to be tied up behind the scenes.
That means we won’t be cutting all our ties with the EU, or casting off completely free, despite what some may tell you. Neither will we be shutting down all negotiations, as Boris Johnson insisted we would by December 31.
