Wythenshawe Park’s cafe is set to stay closed for months after a row over who operates it. The tender to run the cafe was opened up by Manchester City Council earlier this year, with bidders submitting applications in February.
After months of waiting, the council has decided no-one will run the cafe — because the building needs a refurbishment. The authority says, in the meantime, it will examine ‘interim pop-up’ options for 270-acre park, but no final decisions have been made on which operators will be allowed in.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service understands a third party company, Access Point Food Trucks, is poised to come in later this year and operate as an agent managing individual vendors.
A council spokesperson said in a statement: "Following an open tender process earlier this year, the council did not award a contract to operate the cafe at Wythenshawe Park, at this stage.
