Zack Sharf Digital News Director James Mangold is moving on to direct a “Star Wars” tentpole following “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” but it’s not his first go-around with the Lucasfilm franchise. Back in 2018, news broke that Mangold had been hired to direct a movie about the bounty hunter Boba Fett. He was also set to co-write the project with Simon Kinberg, best known as a writer and producer on the “X-Men” movies. Mangold’s Boba Fett movie never got off the ground, and he recently said on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that it wasn’t too surprising given the overall tone of the project. “At the point I was doing it I was probably scaring the shit out of everyone,” Mangold said. “I was making much more of a borderline R-rated, single planet spaghetti Western. They probably would never be able to embrace Baby Yoda if I had made that. It didn’t really belong in the world I was kind of envisioning.”

Amber Dowling Stephanie Azam is no longer the head of content for Disney+ Canada, Variety has learned. The executive was let go as part of the company’s recent reorganization after less than a year on the job, and amid news that Disney+ has paused original commissions in Canada. Several other positions were eliminated as a result of the reorganization. Jason Badal remains in place as the VP and general manager of Disney+ in Canada. Sources indicate the company is still looking at Canadian originals, although the timeline surrounding any such commissions is unclear. Last September at a Content Canada conference, Badal indicated the streaming service was in search of Canadian content for the Star component of Disney+ (an amalgamation of Hulu, FX and Fox content that hasn’t been distributed to other Canadian broadcasters). Azam was in the audience at the time and still new to the role. Still, Badal revealed her email for those in the room who wanted to send pitches.

A grand Jury in Houston made the ruling on Thursday, according to the Houston Chronicle. 50,000 fans attended the show, which led to a surge during Scott’s performance at the festival outside NRG Park.  At a press conference following the concert, Houston fire chief Samuel Peña clarified the timeline. He said that the crowd began surging forward at 9 p.m., as there was panic involving people running for safety. At that point, Scott paused his set several times to ask security to help out fans, and members of the fire department were sent into the dense crowd to rescue the injured.

The DC Center for the LGBTQ Community and the Capital Pride Alliance held a ceremonial groundbreaking at the new space site for the Center’s soon-to-be new headquarters on Wednesday, June 28. The new building, located in the city’s Shaw neighborhood, will house key services for those in need, such as a food pantry, STD and HIV testing, and mental health counseling services, in addition to providing office space for nine local LGBTQ community organizations.The 6,671 square foot space is located in The Adora, at 828 Wiltberger St. NW, and will feature a therapy room, a boutique with a clothing closet, an ADA-accessible shower, a mailroom to help those without an address receive mail, and a large kitchen, in addition to traditional office space.The new community center will also have WiFi, a computer and resource lab, and a space for large-scale events and meetings.“It’s going to be a space of respite and a space where you can feel whole,” Kimberley Bush, the DC Center’s executive director told Metro Weekly at the groundbreaking.
