A woman was rescued from a canal by firefighters who got into the water to save her. Emergency services were scrambled to the scene in Leigh, Wigan, on Thursday afternoon and she was taken to hospital by paramedics.
There's been no confirmation of her condition, but the Manchester Evening News understands that thankfully she was conscious and breathing at the scene.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed firefighters were called to 'reports of a person in the water' on Atherleigh Way in Leigh, a stretch of which runs over the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
A specialist technical response unit and the water incident unit based in Eccles, Salford, also attended the scene at around 4.15pm today.
