Police in Ayrshire have arrested a 53-year-old driver in connection with a crash that killed his passenger near King Charles' Scottish residence.
Emergency services descended on the A70 in Cumnock, close to Dumfries House, shortly after midnight on Sunday November 6 following reports of a crash involving a BMW.
While paramedics were quick to arrive on the scene the 64-year-old passenger was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives investigating the smash have arrested the 53-year-old driver, who sustained minor injuries, in connection with the one-car collision.
Officers say formal identification of the passenger has yet to take place but next of kin have been informed. The road was closed for 11 hours to allow investigative work to take place.
