A woman jumped from an upstairs window as a fire ripped through her home on Wednesday night (August 16). Neighbours were evacuated and two dogs were also rescued as huge clouds of smoke billowed overhead after the house caught fire on Andover Avenue, in Alkrington, Middleton.
Emergency services descended on the street shortly after 11pm where it was found a woman had jumped to safety from the first floor window and those living nearby were ordered to leave their homes for their safety.
Two dogs inside were also saved by fire crews at the scene. She was taken to hospital for treatment and sustained injuries that police say are not thought to be life-changing or life-threatening at this time. Police and fire crews remained at the scene for three hours as the blaze was eventually brought under control.
The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "We received reports of a fire at 23.05 hours on Wednesday 16 August 2023 on Andover Avenue in Middleton.
