Woman dies in Ayrshire horror smash as driver arrested in connection with crash

A woman has died in a horror crash in Ayrshire, police have confirmed today. The 64-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene of the single-car smash yesterday just after midnight on the A70 near Dumfries House in Cumnock.Police say the driver of the BMW, 53, suffered minor injuries and has been arrested in connection with the crash.The road was closed for 11 hours yesterday and while formal identification is yet to take place, the next of kin have been informed.Police are now appealing for information following the crash.Sergeant Kevin Craig of the Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who has died and our enquiries into the circumstances of what happened are under way.“I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has dash-cam footage to contact us as soon as possible, you may have captured something that could assist our investigation.“The road was closed in both directions for 11 hours to allow investigations to take place.
