A woman has died after being hit by a car in Glasgow city centre. The 40-year-old was struck on Wellington Lane in the city at around 2.40pm on Tuesday.Emergency services raced to the scene following a report of a woman, lying on the ground, who had been hit by a car.
Police have confirmed that the driver of the car was uninjured and the woman's devastated family have been informed.Cops quickly launched an investigation and enquiries have established that the woman was dropped off in Wellington Lane prior to her being struck by the vehicle.A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course, however, officers are not treating the death as suspicious.Detective Sergeant Sean McLoughlin said: "We are continuing to investigate the circumstances around this incident.
A family has lost a loved one and it's imperative we provide answers as to how that happened. If anyone has any information, who has not yet spoken to us, please do get in touch."Half a dozen Police Scotland vehicles, two ambulances and two fire engines were pictured in the area following the incident on Tuesday.
Police taped off Wellington Street between Cadogan Street and Waterloo Street and officers from the nationwide force were seen standing guard on nearby streets.A collision investigation unit was on site and a blue police tarpaulin was erected on Wellington Lane.
