A 96-year-old woman has admitted killing a woman and injuring another after her car 'mounted the kerb' and hit them. June Mills has pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving after she struck the two pedestrians in the collision on Elbow Lane in Formby on August 2 last year.
Brenda Joyce died aged 76 as a result of her injuries, while a second pensioner was also injured during the incident. Mills, of Broadway Close in Ainsdale, has since been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and appeared before Liverpool Crown Court on Tuesday (August 27). Sitting in a wheelchair and clutching her purse and a tissue, she spoke to confirm her name before admitting the single count.
Mills is believed to be the oldest woman in the country to have been convicted of such an offence. Robert Dudley, prosecuting, confirmed to the court that she surrendered her driving licence following the collision.
