Coronation Street icon Sue Cleaver has handed over her habit to a familiar face after taking a break from the soap for a "dream" role. The 60 year old actress, who's been a staple on the cobbles as Eileen Grimshaw since 2001, took time off earlier this year to star as Mother Superior in the touring musical production of Sister Act.
Sue was thrilled about the opportunity and Corrie producers kindly allowed her a "few months grace" to embrace the role. After her successful stint and return to Weatherfield, the show must go on, and it's been revealed that Wendi Peters, known to Corrie fans as Cilla Brown, will be stepping into the role of Mother Superior when the tour hits Liverpool later this month.
Wendi, who left her role as Chesney and Fiz's mum back in 2007 with a short return in 2014, has kept busy with roles in shows like Hetty Feather, Mr Sunshine, Midsomer Murders, and even popped up in BBC's Doctors. The musical adaptation of the beloved Whoopi Goldberg film is set to dazzle audiences at the Liverpool Empire starting Monday, September 30, through Saturday, October 5.
With a runtime of 2.5 hours and glowing reviews under its belt, the show promises to be a hit. Landi Oshinowo stars as Deloris Van Cartier, whose life is turned upside down after witnessing a murder and being hidden in the least likely place a convent.
