WILL Smith has quit the Academy following the backlash about his shocking slap to Chris Rock. The newly-crowned Best Actor winner resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as he faced possible expulsion or suspension for his violent outburst last Sunday.
The slap heard around the world sent shockwaves throughout the entertainment industry and embroiled Will, 53, in the greatest controversy of his career.
In a statement put out on Friday, the movie star called his actions “shocking, painful and inexcusable” and said that he will accept any additional consequences that the Academy’s Board of Governors deems appropriate. “The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home. “I betrayed the trust of the Academy.
I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken." .css-16e4f55{margin:16px 0;}.css-u6yh49{background-color:rgba(246,242,249,1);margin:16px 0;}.css-1tapza8{padding:20px 15px;}.css-1bk4jdt{padding:20px.
