The stage-to-screen adaptation of Wicked has added another impressive achievement to its list after smashing box office records last month.The film has now officially become the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation in global box office history, surpassing Mamma Mia, which held the title since its release in 2008.Mamma Mia raked in $611 million worldwide at the end of its box office run, but Wicked has now surpassed that with a staggering $634 million worldwide, just six weeks after its release.This is undoubtedly great news for Universal Pictures, especially as a sequel, Wicked: For Good, is set to be released in November 2025.
The film was a hit from its opening weekend alone, bringing in $162.5 million and making it a profitable venture, given its budget of $150 million, reports the Mirror.
