Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.
He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,
Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.
Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard was invited to their title celebrations by the club. The playing and coaching staff gathered to watch Chelsea take on Manchester City in June knowing that the Premier League trophy would be theirs should Pep Guardiola’s team fail to win.
Frank Lampard’s side went on to win 2-1, sending the Liverpool players into meltdown as they celebrated the first league title the club had won in 30 years.
Their former skipper Gerrard, who won the Champions League with the club in 2005, has since mentioned why he rejected the chance to attend the event in question, choosing to stay with his family.
