Johnny Depp. A man who sued his ex-wife for defamation – and won – after she wrote a column in which she claimed to have been a victim of domestic abuse.

A man who sued a British newspaper for calling him a ‘wife beater’, but lost his libel case after the judge found the article ‘substantially true’.

The UK judge found that 12 of the 14 alleged instances of domestic violence by Depp against his ex-wife Amber Heard had occurred. ‘Comeback’ is a term that conjures some sort of heroic feat – the overcoming of adversity – not someone who has simply returned to their job after a string of domestic violence allegations.

The entertainment industry is supposed to be one in which people are held accountable. One that has firmly turned its back on the oppression of women, one that calls out the behaviour of predatory men and one that no longer platforms abusers.
