Benjamin Mendy and his friend Louis Saha Matturie exchanged ‘misogynistic’ messages which exposed their alleged attitudes towards women, it can be revealed.
But the judge in their trial resisted moves to show them to jurors deliberating on their cases, even though he said they showed the pair had ‘lost their moral compass’.
Mr Mendy and Mr Matturie were both cleared of a series of sexual allegations, including rape, after two Crown court trials. The police investigation uncovered hundreds of messages between the pair as part of 101 ‘conversations’ from 2019 to 2021.
The defence objected to them being shown to jurors, and ultimately they were not introduced as evidence in the case. The nature of some of the messages can be disclosed following the conclusion of Mr Matturie’s re-trial.
