When restaurateur and art world insider Michael Chow arrived in New York to open his legendary restaurant Mr Chow, Ian Schrager and Steve Rubell honoured him by throwing his birthday party at Studio 54.

As everyone in New York knew, this was to be the last party at infamous night club - there were 1,000 invited guests and hundreds more clambered outside, hoping to get in.

Michael Chow tells Luxury what happened inside. "Ian Schrager and Steve Rubell threw me a birthday party around the time I came to New York to open Mr Chow on 57th Street.

It was the last party before Studio 54 died, because they had their alcohol license revoked and other troubles ahead. Everyone knew it was the end of an era - the last bash - and 1,000 people came..
