Weeks of travel chaos ahead for EK drivers after sewer collapses near cemetery

Drivers face eight weeks of travel disruption after a large section of sewer collapsed near East Kilbride Cemetery. Scottish Water say a six-metre length section of sewer needs to be replaced - which means Mavor Avenue will close from Monday, July 18.Three-way temporary traffic lights will be installed and diversions in place.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

"To carry this out we will need to close Mavor Avenue at its junction with the roundabout on the B783 East Mains Road for approximately eight weeks."So that our contractor, George Leslie Ltd, will be able to work safely and access the damaged section of sewer, three-way temporary traffic lights will be installed - on either side of the roundabout on East Mains Road and at its junction with Old Coach Road."Traffic will be diverted via B783 East Mains Road, A749 Kingsway, Law Place and Mavor Avenue."The proposal is to manually control the temporary lights during peak morning and evening hours to keep traffic flowing.
