‘We spent £13 on Aldi food to feed two people for a week and ate delicious meals’

Everyone has been affected by the cost of living crisis, rising energy and food prices, with the squeeze being felt with rising fuel prices too.

However, we can always rely on our favourite budget supermarket chains to provide cheap, easy and healthy foods. Lancashire Live reporter Susan Newton visited the new Aldi in Carnforth, near Lancaster, this week to find out what was on offer. Below, she details her experience We decided to set ourselves the task of finding what delicious food we can get to feed two people for a week for under £15.

We spent a grand total of £12.95, which for a week of tasty food we’d say is not bad going at all. We wanted to get a fair variety, as well as staples that could be used in a variety of different meals, report Mirror Online.

Before we even step foot into the supermarket, we knew we had to secure the staples.That meant getting rice as an essential part of the shopping list and for only 45p for a kilogram of long grain white rice, you can’t go wrong.Now, we’re not in the business of eating rice on its own, so we had to put our thinking caps on for what could accompany it for our evening meal.Curries, chillies and stir-frys came to mind, so we opted for a oyster and spring onion stir-fry sauce at a very impressive cost of 39p.We also bagged a Thai green curry kit at a higher price of £1.59, but we know it’s going to be delicious and easy to make, so that can be saved for a treat day.As carnivores, we felt a meat option had to be found in order to go with the stir-fry and any other meals we may devour during the working week.The cheapest chicken breast option was a small pack of mini fillets for £2.79, which despite having ‘small’ in the name, was certainly enough for the two of us
