Announced in the Queen's Speech on Tuesday (May 11), the consultation will consider religious freedoms and how professionals, such as therapists, can be protected.
Conversion therapy, also known as 'cure' therapy, is the idea that someone's sexual or gender identity can be ‘stopped or suppressed’ sometimes through dangerous and unethical practices.
In 2018, the government said a ban on conversion therapy was a ‘top priority’ as part of an action plan focused on improving the lives of LGBT+ people in the UK.
