Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey was shown the first red card at this year's World Cup following a wild tackle on Iran forward Mehdi Taremi.
The Dragons went into the clash knowing victory would put them in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stages, following their opening match draw against the USA.
But as both teams chased a winner, Rob Page's Welsh were reduced to 10 men, after Hennessey produced a challenge that was reminiscent of Germany goalkeeper Harald Schumacher's lunge on France forward Patrick Battiston during the semi-final of the 1982 World Cup.
The sickening tackle saw Battiston lose three teeth and suffer spinal damage but thankfully Taremi was able to continue for Iran.
