This is the moment thunder and lightning struck Greater Manchester last night following the recent heatwave. The Met Office previously said there would be 'widespread heavy and thundery showers' breaking out, with a risk of hail and lightning.
However, whilst it stayed humid across most of the North West, flashes of lightning and distant thunder could be heard - but no rain. It was reported that up to 600 flashes of lightning struck from 9.30pm. And loud raps of distant thunder could be heard over Stockport.
