A member of the Democratic Party, Biden is the presumptive Democratic nominee for president in the 2020 election. He unsuccessfully sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 1988 and in 2008.

On Wednesday morning, President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be sworn into office to begin Biden’s term as the 46th President of the United States.

The ceremony is set to take place on the West Front of the Capitol Building. Harris, who will make history as the first female vice president and the first Black woman and the first woman of South Asian descent to hold that office, will be sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

Biden will then be sworn in by Chief Justice John Roberts, as is tradition. After that, Biden will deliver an inaugural address to lay out his vision for his first days as president.
