Brits are being alerted to a major warning sign in the nose that could point towards a potentially fatal health issue linked with over 75,000 deaths annually.
High blood pressure, commonly known as hypertension, means the heart must exert more effort to circulate blood through the body.Increased pressure can excessively strain the heart, other vital organs, and blood vessels, potentially causing ongoing damage.
It plays a role in many severe illnesses, including cardiovascular diseases, kidney problems, strokes, as well as heart failure and attacks.Worryingly, it's estimated that one in three people in Britain could have high blood pressure without knowing it.
Due to its often asymptomatic nature, hypertension is notoriously identified as a "silent killer".Public Health England has commented on its website, noting: "Often described as a 'silent killer' because it rarely causes symptoms, high blood pressure was responsible for around 75,000 deaths in 2015, according to the Global Burden of Disease report." The British Heart Foundation (BHF) also warns: "High blood pressure rarely has noticeable symptoms.
